Faro Airport celebrates its 50th anniversary and signs the contract to expand its terminal

On July 10, 2015, Faro Airport had two reasons to celebrate: its 50th anniversary and the signature of the contract to expand and redevelop the terminal. The Chairman of VINCI Airports, Nicolas Notebaert, and the Chairman of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, Jorge Ponce de Leão, were there to celebrate with the airport’s director, Alberto Mota Borges.

Work to expand and redevelop the terminal at Faro Airport will be conducted by Mota-Engil. The work will start in October 2015 and is scheduled to end in March 2017.

The capital investment for the project totals €32.8 million.

The main reasons for the work are to increase traffic, create more operating areas and public areas, revitalize and extend retail space (the terminal will grow from 81,200 sq. meters to 93,120 sq. meters), increase security operations, modernize the terminal’s image, and rethink the integration of areas accessible to disabled people.
