New easyJet base opens at Nantes airport
After Lisbon, Porto and Lyon-Saint Exupéry, Nantes Atlantique airport is the 4th airport in VINCI Airports’ network to welcome an easyJet base. In spring 2019, the airline will launch its new flights from the Nantes base, its seventh in France, where it has already become the second-largest by number of passengers carried. The company started its operations at the airport 10 years ago with a first flight to Geneva in 2008 and has now decided to set up a local base in order to accelerate its growth.
The opening of this base, where three A320 aircraft will be stationed, will give passengers the benefit of a wider choice of destination, more frequent flights and a better timetable for popular destinations. The 400,000 additional passengers expected in 2019 will be able to discover around ten new routes, a mixture of business and tourism destinations, which will boost the tourism economy and accelerate Nantes’ connectivity in France and the rest of Europe.
easyJet expects more than 1.8 million passengers through its new base in 2019, the equivalent of 25% of Nantes Atlantique airport’s traffic. This will give existing business clients, which already represent 27% of passengers on domestic lines, particularly to Lyon, Toulouse and, more recently, Lille, the benefit of more return flights per day.
The local economy, which is already stimulated by the 450,000 passengers who visit Nantes thanks to easyJet each year, will be strengthened by around 100 direct jobs, essentially cabin crew and pilots.
