Guanacaste airport

Guanacaste airport (LIR) in Liberia, on the Pacific coast, is a key link in the national strategy to develop eco-tourism. The airport, which receives one-fifth of Costa Rica's tourist flows, has seen its traffic triple in ten years, with a 8.8% increase in 2019 alone. It was one of the first airports in the world to receive the Airport Health Accreditation from the ACI in 2020. The airport also received the Best Airport Award for Quality of Service from the ACI for the second year. In 2023, Guanacaste airport was named the best airport in its region (ACI's "ASQ Best airport by size and region" award) and was awarded the prize for the “best passenger journey” at Guanacaste Airport. Regarding the environment, Guanacaste airport was recognized as carbon neutral by the non-profit organisation EARTH University in 2017. In 2021, it joins the ACI's carbon reduction programme by achieving ACA Level 2 accreditation for its environmental actions.
