5 million passengers a year: a new record for Nantes airport
On 21 November 2017, Nantes Atlantique reached the milestone of 5 million passengers, making it the seventh-largest regional airport in France. It reached the 4 million passenger milestone on 19 December 2014.
At the end of October 2017, year-to-date traffic was up 14%, stimulated by opening new lines and establishing links between Nantes airport and Europe’s major cities. In 2017, three new regular airlines started operations at Nantes Atlantique: British Airways, Lufthansa and Chalair Aviation.
In addition, airlines such as Hop! Air France, Transavia, Volotea and EasyJet, which were already operating at Nantes, extended their geographical coverage, targeting mainly destinations outside France. Furthermore, Volotea celebrated 2 million passengers managed at Nantes in November 2017.
International travel now accounts for 55% of the airport’s total passenger traffic, an increase of 20%, while domestic traffic grew 8% to 45% of the total.
In response to ever higher demand for mobility, airlines made strong increases in their seat capacity, which was fully commercialised in 2017, confirming the very positive market trend. The airport now covers all passenger expectations – business flights, short stays and holiday destinations – in both low-cost and conventional formats.
