Chile: Inauguration of Santiago airport’s Pier C
Santiago airport inaugurated its Pier C in the presence of Sebastian Piñera, President of Chile and Juan Andrés Fontaine, Minister of Public Works. This is a new step of the modernization and expansion of Santiago airport that will cover a total area of 300.000 m2, 200.000 of which will be part of the new passenger international terminal. At the end of the expansion construction works made by VINCI Construction Grands Projets (50% of conception-construction group) and Astaldi (50%), the airport capacity will be increased to 30 million passengers.
Pier C is the first boarding hall of the airport’s new international terminal and will serve more than 392,000 passengers a month. This landmark renovation project should create up to 250 new jobs. Santiago airport’s 24,000 m2 new boarding hall will have 5 new double boarding bridges that will connect between 5 and 10 aircraft to the terminal.
Traffic at Santiago airport has grown by 34% since the concession started in 2015. In December 2018, the airport celebrated 22 million passengers welcomed since the beginning of the year. Once the works are completed, the airport capacity is expected to increase to 38 million passengers per year. Nuevo Pudahuel, the consortium formed by VINCI Airports and its partners Group ADP and Astaldi, has indeed undertaken modernization works in response to this impressive growth in air traffic. The expansion works illustrate VINCI Airports’ ambition to sustainably boost growth and create value for the airports it manages.
