Expansion of Kansai International Airport begins

The extension and renovation project of Kansai International Airport is scheduled to start at the end of May. It aims to create an airport that is as efficient and customer friendly as possible and is scheduled to be finished in time for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. KIX will then be able to accommodate 40 million international passengers per year.

Largest airport renovation project in the region for the past 50 years, it will boost the airport’s appeal: increasing capacity for international flights, optimizing runway area and offering a smoother and radically different passenger experience through the creation of new relaxation areas or the increased use of Fast Travel, with technologies such as a self-service check-in and bag drop facility, as well as smart lanes and e-gates to offer travellers a streamlined airport experience with reduced waiting times.
Not only will the airport provide passengers with an enhanced travel experience, it will also help drive economic growth in Japan in the post-Covid-19 era.
