Kansai International Airport launches its Terminal 1 Renovation Works
In face of growing international inbound demand and ahead of Osaka World Exposition in 2025, Kansai International Airport, member of VINCI Airports’ network since 2016, officially launches its Terminal 1 renovation works. The program will expand KIX terminal’s international capacity to over 40 million passengers per year. The renovation works will be conducted over a period of 5 years.
The project will consist in the reorganization of the terminal layout to relocate domestic functions and expand international area. It will ease passengers’ flows and increase efficiency thanks to the centralization of international process facilities with the unification of international security and emigration and the reallocation of available floor space to international departure lounge.
Revamping also includes a vast program of infrastructure reinforcement to prepare the airport to face a major seismic event and the development of disaster prevention measures.
Works will also focus on dramatically transforming passenger experience through the promotion of Fast Travel and a great focus on comfort with the implementation of relaxing spaces. New spaces will be creatively designed to implement a groundbreaking “mood” experience strategy.
The adoption of modern Japanese design code and additional commercial area will transform the terminal into a real gateway onto Japan and the Osaka region.
