Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport breaks new record, catering to 11 million passengers
Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport cleared the 11-million-passenger milestone for the first time ever, and opened 27 lines, in 2018.
Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport posted all-time-high traffic levels in 2018, days after the Cambodian airports catered to 10 million passengers for the first time and the airport in Santiago de Chile reached the 22-million-passenger mark.
The airport in Lyon also opened 27 lines last year, adding 12 destinations and stepping up frequencies to Amsterdam, Dubai, Moscow, Frankfurt and Istanbul, in order to expedite connections to other continents. Passenger load factors on existing lines continue to surge and account for about 60% of this growth in traffic. These improvements stem from VINCI Airports’ teamwork with airlines and other companies operating in the airport to develop traffic and enhance the passenger experience.
This new milestone reflects Saint Exupéry’s sustainable expansion: its traffic has increased by over 25% in the past 3 years and it handled 10 million travellers in 2017.
Terminal 1 recently opened a new esplanade, central bus station and baggage delivery hall to accommodate the constant rise in air traffic and to treat passengers to an even smoother experience.
